Eritrea is located in the North-Eastern region of Africa.The name Eritrea was given to the country by (King Umberto of) the Italian colony in January, 1890.  

Brief Information About Eritrea

  • Population: 4.5million 
  • 1557: Turkish occupation of Eritrea
  • 1880: Italy began to grab a portion of Eritrea coastline(Red Sea)
  • 1890: Italy occuptaion of Eritrea
  • 1941: occupation by allied forces administrated by the British
  • 1950: U.N. adopted federal resolution
  • 1951: The federation between Eritrea and Ethiopia came into effect
  • 1952: December the Ethiopian occupation force were in all control and domination of the whole territory of Eritrea
  • 1952-1962: Eritreans were imprisioned,tormented and assasinated by Ethiopia
  • 1958: The Eritrea liberation movement in Eritrea called peaceful general strike against Ethiopia political and econimic demonistration which spread from Asmasra to Massawa to other small towns in the country. 2 days before there were supprissed through the use of brute force by Ethiopians.
  • 1961: The Eritrean armed struggle started to the Eritrean people for the freedom and independance.
  • Since 1961 freedom fighters to the E.L.F(Eritrean Liberation Fighters)have had battles with the army and police forces of Ethiopia.Casual province suffering casualtis, according to the recent military sources inside Ethiopia army.Estimate of the order of more than 300 hundred a year killed.
  • Ethiopia wants to hold its Eritrean ports on the red sea, Massawa and Assab through which 90% of the forein trade.
  • 1962: Eritrean guerrilla fighting a battle for the liberation of their territoy from Ethiopian armies.
